Taguig City – Free data access to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) online skills training program and other educational platforms of the government has been extended until 2022.
Last April 19, Globe Telecom issued a statement extending free data access to the Globe eLibrary and essential learning platforms of the national government including TESDA Online Program (TOP) until 2022.
TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña expressed his gratitude to Globe for helping TESDA reach more Filipinos in need of the agency’s services.
“We are glad to have this opportunity of serving more Filipinos in line with our guiding principle, ‘TESDA Abot Lahat’. Now, our services can reach even our kababayan without having to pay for data costs.” he said.
The free access was offered by Globe to its customers last year to make it easier for everyone to learn and get resource materials from TESDA, Department of Education(DepEd), and Commission on Higher Education (CHED), without incurring data charges on their Globe or TM-powered smartphones.
“We endeavor to help enhance opportunities for self-learning by making quality content available to teachers and students. We hope our customers will take advantage of this free service to DepEd, CHED, and TESDA in cooperation with the DICT and NTC for their online learning requirements,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.
Data provided by E-TESDA showed that TOP now has 2,905,009 registered users from its launching in 2012 up to March 2021.
TOP is an open educational resource that aims to make technical vocational education and training (TVET)more accessible to Filipinos and widen their chances of employment or sources of livelihood.
There are 85 online courses under various sectors available in the TOP. Some of the courses are “Practicing COVID-19 Preventive Measures in the Workplace”, “Introduction to Food Processing” and “Managing Personal Finances.”
Globe Telecom has been a strong partner of TESDA since 2019 and has been very supportive in forwarding the agency’s mandates.
Earlier, Globe extended communications support to TESDA by providing prepaid load allowing TESDA to easily coordinate with returning OFWs and offer its training programs and services. The prepaid cards will also be used to validate if existing beneficiaries have already completed their training.

TESDA to intensify initiatives to achieve food security
Taguig City – As part of its initiative in promoting agriculture among Filipinos and addressing food security concerns, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has vowed to establish more mini-organic farms and community gardens nationwide.
Since he assumed office in 2018, TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña has been pushing for establishment of mini-organic farms and community gardens as growing one’s own food is among the best approach to help the country achieve food security.
Lapeña likewise assured that TESDA has always been ready to teach the modern and proper way of planting.
“We all know that as we face this pandemic, we are prone to food shortages. These mini organic farms and community gardens will help address the problem,” he said.
“Agriculture is not limited to the rural and far-flung areas. We are pursuing agriculture to achieve food sufficiency in all areas of the country, including urbanized cities,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director General forCommunities and Local Government Unit ServicesGabriel Luis Quisumbing said that there is a need to collaborate with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for farming equipment and allocation of lands.
“Helping one another and sharing in the nurturing of our communities is a true embodiment of the Filipino spirit. We are proud that despite the pandemic, TESDA does not stop in our effort to serve the people,” he added.
In May 2019, Lapeña signed a memorandum directing all TESDA training centers to establish their own mini-organic farms as models on encouraging the community to grow their own food.
The TESDA chief also said that these programs will be expanded nationwide especially in Metro areas.
Data released by TESDA’s Regional Operations Management Office (ROMO) showed that there are 161 mini organic farms nationwide.
One example is the community garden in Barangay Fortune, Marikina. TESDA has trained several residents there on Organic Agriculture, and from there, they were able to establish a garden which is now a source of food.
Meanwhile, since the onset of the pandemic last year, TESDA has been pushing for urban farming and encouraging the public to take agriculture-related training.
Last year, TESDA-NCR rolled out its pilot urban agriculture and capacity building project at the Armed Forces of the Philippine Officers Village (AFPOV) in Taguig City which aims to transform vacant spaces in cities into urban farms.
Also, last March, TESDA-MuntiParLasTaPat inaugurated its Urban Aqua Farm project in a bid to support food security at the community level. It also aims to boost fish and crop farming in Metro Manila and eventually, other cities.
“This project signifies the importance of farming in our urban areas, particularly to our marginalized sectors who can make farming as a source of their livelihood even if they are living in the city, without going to the remote farming areas,” Lapeña had said. ###
