CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) and the Municipal Government of Calumpit unveiled the 17th SINEliksik Bulacan Heritage Marker commemorating the Labanan sa Bagbag on October 28, 2026 at Parque de Calumpit in Brgy. Caniogan, Calumpit, Bulacan.
Marking the 17th heritage marker established under the province’s heritage preservation initiative, the Provincial Government seeks to preserve the memory of this significant event and strengthen public appreciation of Bulacan’s contribution to Philippine history.
Formalization of the marker’s transfer to the Municipal Government of Calumpit also took place during the ceremony, with local officials pledging to safeguard and maintain it for future generations.
The initiative is supported by resolution No. 042-T’2026, which recognizes significant cultural properties and historical events in the province for heritage marking.
Fought on April 25, 1899, the Battle of Bagbag saw Republican forces led by General Gregorio del Pilar clash with American troops, during which Filipino soldiers destroyed the iron bridge of the Manila-Dagupan Railway to delay and ambush the enemy as they crossed the Bagbag River in pursuit of government leaders stationed in San Fernando, Pampanga.
