
MAKATI — September 3, 2026 — The Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the Philippines, in partnership with Royal Brunei Airlines, brought the vibrant flavors and hospitality of the Abode of Peace to the Philippines through the “Taste of Brunei” event held today. The gathering also served as a launch platform for the Visit Brunei 2027 tourism campaign, themed “Abode of Peace — Discover Brunei.”
In her opening remarks delivered on behalf of Her Excellency Megawati Manan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Philippines, Fadzllyani Haji Annuar, Chargé d’Affaires, emphasized the event’s goal of strengthening people-to-people ties between Brunei and the Philippines through shared culture, food, and tourism.
A Culinary Journey Through Brunei
Guests were treated to an authentic showcase of Bruneian cuisine, highlighted by a live cooking demonstration of Kuih Penyaram — a beloved traditional deep-fried sweet cake with a thick, chewy center and delicate, crispy scalloped edges, enjoyed daily as a tea-time favorite.
The full culinary spread included:
– Keropok — Crispy shrimp crackers made from ground shrimp, tapioca flour, garlic, and spices, sun-dried and deep-fried.
– Soto — A comforting beef broth soup infused with rich spice paste and topped with fresh garnishes.
– Daging Masak Hitam — Beef slow-cooked in a blend of aromatic spices, whole spices, and sweet dark soy sauce.
– Ayam Masak Merah — Chicken braised in a fragrant spice paste and rich tomato-chili sauce.
– Sayur Pucuk Masak Lemak — Sweet leaf vegetables and tofu simmered in creamy coconut milk with dried shrimp.
– Kuih Assorted — Traditional desserts crafted from rice flour, tapioca, or glutinous rice, combined with coconut milk, sugar, and natural flavors.
– Teh Tarik & Rose Drink — Iconic pulled black tea with condensed milk, and a creamy rose cordial drink.
