
March 10 initiative spearheaded by Ambassador Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino shares Malaysian culture with key leaders and partners
MANILA – 10 MARCH 2026 – Bubur lambuk, a savoury rice porridge deeply rooted in Malaysian culture, was distributed to key Philippine government institutions and embassy partners today, as the Embassy of Malaysia launched its annual Ramadan initiative to share the traditional dish—a symbol of communal unity and generosity.
A decades-old tradition tied to Ramadan
The dish’s history in Malaysia spans several decades, shaped by Malay culinary traditions and early Muslim communities in the region. Over time, it became intrinsically linked to Ramadan, valued for its rich flavour and easy digestibility—ideal for breaking the day’s fast at sunset.
Prepared with rice, coconut milk, aromatic herbs, spices, and meat like beef or chicken, bubur lambuk is renowned for its comforting texture and layered taste. Historically, large batches are cooked at mosques and community centers across Malaysia, such as Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru in Kuala Lumpur, where volunteers
