PASAY CITY – Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Erwin Mojica Garcia was recognized as Top News Asia Magazine’s “Public Service Man of the Year” during a magazine signing event at the National Book Store Super Branch on March 10, 2026. He was joined by the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Grace Bondad Nicolas and Kiwanis Club’s Glenda V. Hufano, who was featured as Distinguished Governor.
In a historic statement for the poll body, Chairman Garcia emphasized that “no Filipino should be left behind when it comes to the right to vote.” To back this commitment, COMELEC has extended voter registration services to remote areas including Pag-asa Island and to members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Mindanao.
Garcia also highlighted stricter measures against election violations, stating that politicians found guilty of acts like vote-buying should face perpetual disqualification from public office, rather than just a 6-year jail term. Additionally, he assured that digitalization efforts will safeguard the integrity of absentee voting.
Nicolas expressed delight at featuring both Garcia in Top News Asia and Hufano in Rising Tigers magazine. Hufano was recognized for her exemplary community service work through Kiwanis International.
