MANILA – Malaysia’s Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Dato Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, emphasized themes of inclusivity, mutual understanding, and shared prosperity during an Iftar gathering with media partners and key stakeholders at the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila on 4 March 2026 (Wednesday).
Among the guests were Mr. Mahabsar Lucman, President of the Muslim Personnel Association of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA); Mr. Christian Paro-an, Trustee of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ms. Cynthia D Cervantes, Barangay Bel-Air Captain; and Ms. Gigi N. Gaw, Hotel Manager of Hotel Lucky Chinatown, alongside representatives from various media organizations.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Castelino welcomed attendees, noting that Ramadan is “not only about fasting from dawn to dusk, but about cultivating empathy, gratitude, and self-discipline.” He added that Iftar gatherings reflect “universal values of kindness, generosity, and inclusivity that transcend cultural and religious differences.”
The ambassador highlighted how Malaysia harmonizes Islamic principles with modern governance through initiatives like Wakaf (Islamic endowments), which funds education, healthcare, and community development for underserved groups regardless of religion or race. “This reflects Malaysia’s firm commitment to moderation, inclusivity, and shared prosperity as a progressive modern Islamic nation,” he stated.
Acknowledging the media’s role in shaping narratives between societies, he described the event as a platform to “deepen partnerships, exchange perspectives, and expand meaningful collaboration with key stakeholders.”
Ambassador Castelino also promoted Visit Malaysia Year 2026, a national campaign showcasing the country’s multicultural heritage, natural landscapes, and urban vibrancy. He noted that visitors can experience Ramadan bazaars, diverse cuisines, eco-tourism destinations, and “the harmonious coexistence of cultures,” inviting media to support the initiative.
“May this Ramadan bring peace, blessings, and renewed friendship to us all,” the ambassador concluded.
