DBM leverages social media to bridge the gap between government finance and average Filipino citizens

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman affirms the instrumental role of social media in connecting governmental fiscal matters to the daily concerns of the general populace.

“Embodying good governance, it is our mission to extend our reach, so as to enlighten citizens about the disposition of public funds in an easily comprehensible manner,” Secretary Pangandaman said.

The Usapang Budget Facebook page, which was inaugurated almost a year ago, has rapidly amassed over 18,000 followers. Not only the page’s followers but also the wider public are kept informed through a diverse mix of posts that may include text, images, videos, art cards, or any combination thereof.

“Dito po, aside from explaining kung paano mag-budget ang gobyerno at kung saan ginugugol ang pondo ng bayan, maaari din pong magtanong ang mga tao upang sila’y maliwanagan,” the DBM Secretary added.

Usapang Budget aims to deliver real-time and comprehensive insight into budgetary allocations and spending by the government. The goal is to present this critical information in an accessible and engaging style, avoiding unnecessary technical language.

Furthermore, the social media platform will also serve as a conduit for regular updates about the administration’s proposed plans, strategic endeavors, operational happenings, and developmental schemes under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr’s leadership.
