Agricultural Monitoring System and Pest Identification Technology at PCAARRD T2P

Quezon City, Philippines- In a bid to modernize the country’s agriculture by way of spreading the latest agricultural technologies and innovations to the proper stakeholders in a whole of government approach, the Philippine Council for Agriculture Aquatic and natural Resources Research and Development or PCAARRD, one of the councils of the Department of Science and Technology on the sectors of agriculture, fisheries and the environment spearhead its Technology to People media conference showcasing two innovations in the agricultural sector.

In the recently concluded PCAARRD T2P’s “Matatag Ulan Smart AgriSolutions during La Nina and Rainy Season” the presentation of Community Level SARAI enhanced Agricultural Monitoring System (CL-SEAMS) and dissemination of Crop Advisories and SARAI Smarter Pest Identification Technology delivered by Prof Moises Dorado of the University of the Philippines Los Banos;

The technology using existing maps triangulate specific agricultural areas of concern and need to know information in specific farms like corn, rice, cacao etc it also provides real time information on weather and light or heavy downpour in a particular area even providing soil data and information on what to plant and when. Such data is essential in providing relevant information to farmers through the use of existing satellites without the hassle of purchasing state of the art hardware.

The pest identification technology on the other hand, Prof Dorado explains its importance in the farm through identifying what fertilizer should be use or how the farmer would manage the beneficial insects present in his or her farm. With such technology and innovation in agriculture also in aquatic for it cal also be utilize in fishponds for a more satisfactory result.
